Proactive Maintenance (Schedule-Based)
What it is: Performing routine inspections and servicing on a strict weekly, monthly, or quarterly calendar.
Best for: Daily operators, small print farms, and production environments.
Core schedule routines:
- Before every print: Wipe the build plate with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) and clear stray plastic scraps.
- Monthly: Lubricate linear rods with light oil, grease lead screws, check belt tension, and dust internal electronics.
- Quarterly: Inspect printed structural parts for heat creep or deformation and check extruder teeth wear.
Predictive / Environmental Management
What it is: Modifying the printer's surroundings and setup to prevent wear before it starts.
Best for: Multi-printer farms or high-precision setups.
Key strategies: Using enclosure tents to keep dust out, optimizing tool accessibility, and tracking component lifespan (like brass nozzles lasting ~6 months of heavy use).
